Understanding The Nuances Of Strategies As a Digital Marketer

Strategies are made to fulfill business goals or objectives. These can be seen as larger visions as they require deep thinking towards the target. In digital marketing, often business owners are found saying- “Our strategy is to use a social network.” Pragmatically, a social network is not a ‘strategy’ but a ‘method’ which is used as a day-to-day action and cannot be tied to a specific goal. Consider one example- if you have a restaurant and you want to boost its reservations by 75% during holidays and weekends, then a worthwhile strategy will be to engage more customers through the online reservations from your website. A perfect method will be to use Yelp and Google+ pages to increase reviews and drive traffic towards booking your restaurant website. While planning for digital marketing, make sure that the strategies are always tied to the goals. The idea behind the strategy is to go ahead from largely scaled plans to smaller ones. There are varieties of strategies available in digital marketing. As a digital marketer, you should be aware of differences among various strategies, which will help you to get more visitors reaching your website, stimulating the traffic towards the website. I have tried to outline some important techniques, as follows. Search Engine Strategies: This is the most important and less expensive strategy, to rank high on the main search engines for your preferred keywords, in natural searches.  Search engine posts the robot “spiders” to record the content of your web page. The context behind this is not to trick the search engines, but to leave them with plenty of clues over the web page content. This is called as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO includes different approaches like- Writing a keyword-rich page title. Write a Description META Tag. Description should be about content of the web page using main keywords and phrases. It should be between <Head></Head> tag. Include your keywords in the headers (H1, H2, H3). Position your keywords in the first paragraph of your body text. Include descriptive keywords in the ALT Attribute (for alternate text for an image) of Image Tags. Use keywords in hyperlinks. Develop webpages focused on each of your target keywords. Promote your video, images, and audio content. Promote your local business on the internet. Linking Strategies:  Linking externally i.e. providing your site’s link on other sites, drives additional traffic. Google and other major search engines consider link popularity (of your website) as an important sign of relevance. More links visited will help you rank higher in the search engines. For identifying quantity and quality of incoming links, Google uses a measure called PageRank. Links from trusted, high visited sites will help your site rank higher than links from the low trafficked sites. Linking strategies includes- Submitting your site to key directories, as a link from a directory will help you get more traffic and ranking as well. Submitting your site to trade organization sites and to specialized directories, which are mainly focussing on particular industries like education, finance, etc. Writing articles for others to use in Websites and Newsletters. Social Media:  Our next strategy for promoting websites includes social media, in which people are interacting with each other and responding to posted blogs and commenting on it. It includes 4 types: Blogs Social networking sites Social bookmarking sites Forums Social media can help ranking your site by sending direct traffic, producing more links to your site and generating awareness. You can apply the following strategies for social media: Become a part of a social media community. Promote your site on online forums and discussion lists. Asking visitors to bookmark your site by providing various options.  Traditional Strategies:  A mixed media approach to marketing can be very effective if ‘old media’ strategies are not working. The mixed media strategies can include- Ensuring that all your business cards, stationery items and brochures contain your company’s URL, the only domain name that is recommended. Promoting the use of traditional media, by including URL in any display or making classified ads and spreading it in trade journals, newspapers, yellow papers, etc. From this, you can capture readers’ attention towards the ads and refer them to your company’s URL. Email Strategies: Email is an important path to get more people visiting your website. Just make sure not to send spam mails (unsolicited emails without permissions) as many countries have anti-spam laws. Installing a ‘Signature’ in your email program, which should be at the end of the message, limited to 6-8 lines, including Company name, address, phone number, URL, email id and one line on uniqueness about your company. You can publish an e-mail newsletter for your website’s promotion. If you want to get more subscribers to your email newsletter, you have to include subscription form on every page of your website and promote sign-ups also. Try to send exciting offers to your website visitors and to the customers who have given you an authorisation to contact them. You can include them in regular emailing if you have a regular newsletter. Paid Advertising Strategies:  The above discussed approaches require time and energy and if you want to grow your business more rapidly, you can pay to increase traffic to your website. Paid advertising can be done in 3 ways- Traditional CPM (Cost per thousand views) Pay per click (PPC) Pay per action (PPA) /Cost per action (CPA) You can do advertisements in the company’s email newsletter and can purchase PPC ads with Google AdWords, Yahoo, etc. This idea is vitally important as most internet businesses explore using Google AdWords to direct traffic to their websites. These are the effective ways for your website’s promotion. Though you need to spend more time in understanding and adapting these strategies, it will be beneficial for your company. With these strategies, you can jump-start your business in the market.

Data Analyst and Business Analyst- A contrast

For most people, the terms data analyst and business analyst might seem the same. These two terms are often used interchangeably and people tend to overlook the minute difference that exists between them. On proper examining, you will find the difference in the ways in which these two professionals function, the set of skills they possess and the clients they work with and cater to. In smaller organisations, these two roles might overlap, but in bigger structured organisations, a data analyst and a business analyst have different roles to play. Let’s have a look on how these profiles differ. Business Analyst The job of a business analyst requires examining the prerequisites of the organisation about their operations and functions. These requirements are then translated to physical and financial aspects, with software and hardware detailing which will help in finding the best possible financing solution. Tasks like designing and implementing new systems are also included in the profile of a business analyst. Business analysts test both the legacy and new systems and recommend changes after their assessment. Thus, their work deals with the entire organisational structure so that it meets the stakeholders’ requirements. A business analyst is required to have expertise in the industry in which they function. A business analyst working for a finance company must be good with numbers and understand calculations for a payback period and internal rate of return as both are needed for the calculation of ROI( return on investment). They use various tools to analyse and manipulate data. They should also possess excellent communication skills so that they can easily convey the technical data messages to the clients in a way that is understandable to even those who might lack technical knowledge. They usually resolve cases which are related to end user interactions with computer systems and hence should have good problem-solving skills too. Data Analyst A data analyst collects data, manipulates it, analyses and consequently prepares reports in the form of graphs, charts and dashboards giving a detailed insight into what they have inferred from the data. They also protect the company’s data assuring that consistent and reusable results are obtained from the data. Data analysts are required to possess sharp technical knowledge coupled with excellent industry knowledge. They act like security guards of the company keeping the data safe and also possess a strong and thorough understanding of the relationships that the organisation’s databases hold. They use complex query statements and technologically advanced database tools to extract information from these databases. They are also sometimes known as data scientists and play an instrumental role in providing a deep insight into the organisation’s data list. Thus, the difference between a data analyst and a business analyst lies in the set of skills they possess and the type of clients they interact and handle. Business analysts interact with developers and computer system users, develop certain software that fall in their domain and hence are also called system analysts too. Data analysts, on the other hand, possess expertise in handling various databases of the company, contemplating and interpreting them and analysing them efficiently to study the market. These reports made by them help the company in making wise decisions and setting goals. So, to conclude, we can say that while a business analyst works on the company infrastructure, a data analyst works with business data structures.

5 Tips To Use Twitter Hashtags For Digital Marketing

Twitter hashtags (i.e., keywords preceded by the # symbol) can be used in a variety of ways to find, attract, and retain customers. Whether you’re building a business or personal brand, you should be connecting and communicating with people on Twitter. Hashtags are an important part of that communication process. It only takes a second to add a hashtag symbol in front of a word, but it does take longer than a second to use hashtags effectively for digital marketing. Here are five tips to successfully integrate hashtags into your marketing strategy: 1. Include Hashtags in Your Twitter Bio Use specific hashtags that people might search for to find a business or person like you within your Twitter bio. Don’t overload your bio with hashtags though! Make sure your bio explains who’s behind the Twitter account first and foremost! A few relevant hashtags can be included within the bio description or appended to the end of the bio. However, more than three hashtags gets spammy and will actually annoy other Twitter users. Don’t undo your hard work by overusing hashtags. 2. Use Hashtags in Your Tweets Using hashtags within your tweets helps other people find them. For example, if you’re a scrum master tweeting about agile project management, then you should definitely consider including the #scrum hashtag. People can search Twitter posts for specific hashtags. If you’re trying to build your online audience and influence around a specific subject, it makes sense to use hashtags related to that subject in your tweets. 3. Find Content by Searching for Hashtags Want to find tweets about a specific subject? It’s easy with hashtags. You can search for hashtags in posts using the Twitter search form or you can use a third party tool like hashtags.org to find them. If you use a social media monitoring tool like Hootsuite or Sprout Social for social media listening and management, you can add specific hashtags into your lists of monitored keywords, so you see all of the Twitter posts published using those hashtags in real-time. This makes it very easy to jump into relevant conversations! 4. Create Your Own Hashtag for Your Brand and Conversations If you’ve trademarked your brand, then you can feel free to turn your brand name into a hashtag. You can also turn phrases or other text identifiers related to you or your business into hashtags. For example, many companies run promotions that include specific hashtags. Even television shows encourage viewers to tweet about their programs using specific hashtags. If you can convince people to tweet using your hashtag, it’s just one more way you can build your brand reputation and influence, which could turn into sales! 5. Communicate in Real-Time with Tweet Chats Tweet chats are pre-scheduled (but they can be unscheduled), real-time conversations between groups of Twitter users. For example, the scrum master in #2 above might schedule a tweet chat to answer questions. By including a specific hashtag created for that tweet chat in every tweet published as part of the chat, all participants can easily follow the conversation
