Scrum: Your Path To Becoming An IT Project Manager

Working as a techie is a demanding job because you’ve to constantly collaborate with your team members while also ensuring that you’re doing your bit. The job becomes even more challenging when you’re trying to evolve from a team lead to a project manager.

In your current role, you’ve to ensure that your team is hitting deliverables and all issues are resolved on time. But, as a project manager, you’ll be in charge of not just one but many teams who are working together to make the project a success.

Are you ready to take on this challenge? What more can you do to prepare yourself for this role? You’re about to find out!

    Sequential Planning v/s Scrum

When it comes to managing a software product development project, you can take two approaches—sequential planning and scrum.

In sequential planning, a product is worked upon by a team and then passed on to another team for completion of the remaining tasks. But, in the case of scrum, many self-organizing and cross-functional teams work together to develop the product. It encourages team members to either physically co-locate or closely collaborate through an online portal.

Also, one of the main principles of scrum states that a client can demand changes (emerging requirements) at any point during the product development. As such, scrum takes an empirical approach wherein a team is encouraged to deliver results quickly, understand and implement emerging requirements, and keep themselves abreast of changing trends.

This is also known as Agile software development and scrum is an iterative framework of the same. And if you can master this method, you’ll be considered for the role of a project manager.

    Scrum Facilitators

In a scrum framework, there are three key players:

    Product Owner

The product owner represents the customers and is responsible for communicating product requirements to the scrum team through user stories.

    Development Team

The development team is in charge of communicating with each other and completing tasks set for each sprint cycle.

    ● Scrum Master

If you’re the scrum master, or the project manager, you’ll make sure that the development team understands the product requirements and makes constant progress.

    The Workflow Of Scrum

Once you know who’s doing what in the product development process, the workflow needs to be determined.

Here’s how a scrum framework works:

    ● The product owner gives the customer requirements to the team.
    ● The team holds a meeting and decides goals for each sprint. A sprint is a specified period of time (one week to a month) during which a task needs to be finished.
    ● A sprint backlog is prepared, which states the different goals and tasks that have to be met in each sprint cycle.
    ● Daily scrums (meetings) are held where every team member reports their progress and discusses issues, if any.
    ● The scrum master reviews the meeting and ensures that all issues are resolved and the team is on track.

    Scrum Certification

A scrum certification is the first step towards realizing your dream of becoming an IT project manager. This course will acquaint you with Agile and scrum values so that you can clear the certification test in your first attempt.

While undertaking this course, you will be able to push your limits and learn a lot. For example, the Knowledgehut scrum certification will help you in the following ways:

    ● It will improve your capability of delivering results after the end of every sprint cycle
    ● You’ll be able to practically implement the Agile software development framework
    ● Your business acumen will be enhanced, which means you’ll be able to achieve targets while also reducing risks

The Objective Of Scrum Certification Course

    ● To acquaint you with scrum terminologies and its applications
    ● To make you proficient in creating user stories, planning sprint cycles, and maintaining user and sprint backlog
    ● To train you to finish deliverables and definition of done
    ● To improve your ability to hold scrums and get your team working
    ● To help you take on the role of a scrum master with agility

Who Can Apply For This Certification Course?

Anyone who’s dealing with a scrum team, or intends to, can apply for this course. The main idea behind this course is to help you understand the framework better and brief your team on the same.

However, the certification might be especially helpful for project managers, team leaders, scrum team members, product owners, and scrum managers. Additionally, if you’re planning to shift your team to the scrum framework, you can first take the course so that the transition process is smooth. Also, companies looking to train their employees on scrum can enroll them for this certification.

A scrum certification course will help you move a step ahead of your peers and take on more responsibilities. It will also increase your value as an employee and will make you the most preferred choice for project managerial roles. Apart from this, the course will also help you collaborate better when you’re working in a scrum team or are part of an Agile software development team.
