How to Schedule for AWS Certification Exam?

Please follow the below steps which we think will guide you in scheduling your AWS examination.

Step 1: Go to Amazon Certification webpage, find your certificate examination and click on ‘Register Now’.

Step 2: Click on ‘AWS Certification Account’ to sign up using Amazon Account.

Step 3: You will be directed to the certmetrics dashboard where you have to click on ‘Schedule New Exam’.

Step 4: Select the exam which you want to give.

Step 5: You will now be redirected to PSI Exams where you have to choose the preferred language, testing city and date of the exam.

Step 6: Double check all the details and submit the form.

You can get a list of all the test centers on the official website. Once you know the nearest center, you can apply for the examination according to the available date and time.

Retake AWS Exam:

Those who failed the exam have to wait 14 days before they can give the exam again. There is no limit to the number of exam attempts. However, for each attempt, the full registration price must be paid. Also, the beta exam test takers have only one attempt.

AWS Exam Results:

After completing your exam, you will receive results immediately. After 72 hours of the examination, the candidates who have cleared the examination will receive an AWS e-badge. However, the detailed report takes a week or two to reach the candidate.

AWS Certification Verification Status:

To verify the certification status, just get the validation number from the certificate holder. You can check the validation number here. Each domain has a different weight and tests different skills of the examinee.

  • Domain 1: Designing Resilient Architectures: There are four things that are covered under this domain.

As such, there are no criteria which make a candidate eligible for this exam. However, below are five requirements which AWS recommends learning prior to the exam.

  • 1+ year(s) of hands-on experience of designing, scaling, managing, and deploying cloud solutions on AWS.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one high-level programming language.
  • Ability to analyze and define requirements for AWS application.
  • Hands-on experience in deploying cloud solutions to the AWS platform.
  • Use of best practices to build secure and reliable AWS applications.

There are 2 types of questions:

    • Multiple-Choice: It has one, and only one, the correct answer to each question
    • Multiple-response: As the name suggests, it has 2 correct responses out of the given options.
  • There is also an unscored content on the exam that is placed just for gathering statistical information purposes.
  • There are 5 domains in which the examinee is tested.
    • Designing resilient architectures
    • Defining performant architectures
    • Specifying secure architectures
    • Designing cost-optimized architectures
    • Defining operationally excellent architectures
  • You can score in the range of 100-1000.
  • This examination implements a compensatory scoring model which means that a candidate is not required to clear all sections in order to pass.

According to the information provided by AWS itself, one is able to secure marks in the range of 100-1000. However, only 720 is needed to pass the test and become an AWS certified professional. One does not need to clear cut-off of every section as this test takes into consideration the whole result and not the section-wise.

No, there is no negative marks for incorrectly answered or even unanswered questions. Therefore, it is advised that examinees answer all the questions irrespective of whether they know the correct answer or not.

  • Once you have registered for an exam for a particular date then regardless of whether you give the exam or not, you will be eligible to retake the test only after 14 days past that date.
  • If you want to reschedule your exam within 48 hours of your exam time, then it is possible to do so at the cost of $60.

To reschedule an exam, follow the below steps:

  1. Sign into your AWS Certification Account and click on ‘Upcoming Exams’ tab.
  2. Click on ‘Manage PSI Exams’ to get directed to the PSI dashboard.
  3. Choose the desired exam and click on ‘View Details’.

You will now be able to reschedule or cancel the selected exam from here.

Note: If you are to miss your exam due to any family sickness or emergency then you can have your exam rescheduled by submitting appropriate documents to AWS team to support your absence.

If you pass the exam, then it would take only 72 hours for you to receive your e-certificate, AWS Certified Logo, and a digital badge in your AWS Certification Account. The digital badges awarded to you can be shared on social media as well. The comprehensive transcript of your exam will be made available in your AWS account within five business days.

The duration for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate examination is of 130 minutes as stated by AWS itself. You are allowed to take the examination in any of the languages mentioned - English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.

There is a fixed examination fee for AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate which is $150. AWS also offers practice exams as well which costs around $20.

The certification is earned by the candidate who successfully clears the examination.

The credentials of the certification can be used in a resume, business card or profile to showcase one’s professional qualification.

Amazon wants to defend the quality and value of their certification program. In order to do so, they require the students undergoing the program to accept certain terms and conditions. During the time of registration and before the examination, the students are given an agreement which they must adhere to.

The agreement applies to all the examinations including every question, content, diagram or even answer. All of these are strictly confidential and belong to the AWS. Therefore, none of it can be copied or used elsewhere without the permission of AWS. The student must accept the agreement in order to proceed in the examination.

The AWS Solution Architect - Associate validates two main abilities of the examinee:

  • Based on the customer problem/requirements, the ability of the candidate to define an effective solution.
  • The ability to provide comprehensive guidance to the customer regarding the implementation of the solution throughout its lifecycle.

AWS certification maintains an exam guide. All the questions asked in the examination are based on the concepts given in the guide. In order to keep themselves updated, the authorities keep on changing the questions based on the guide.

If AWS is planning to do a major change, they do so by updating the whole exam guide. One can find the guide on the official website.

  • Your score report contains your overall examination marks which can be in the range of 100-1000. You need at least 720 to pass the exam.
  • The scaled scoring model is used to generalize all the sections as some have different difficulty level than others.
  • Your score report also contains whether you have passed or failed the examination along with sectional performance classification. This may help you understand which section you achieved good grades and in which you didn’t.
  • The Compensatory Scoring Model is used when there is no specific sectional cut-off, rather total marks of the examination are used as a means to determine whether the candidate has passed the test or not.

Amazon Web Services doesn’t want to burden their students, therefore they ensure that if a new product or service is launched, it is accessible by the majority at least 6 months before the examination. This makes sure that the students get enough time to adopt and adapt to the new material.

Also, one must note that this duration is just for the certification. In terms of training, new services are implemented in lesser time.

The exam authorities will change the question based on how impactful the update is.

Amazon keeps adding new cities in the US and globally so that more people can take up the examination without inconvenience. In case, they don’t offer a test center near your surroundings, you can contact the PSI to let them know about it.

Duration of preparation time depends on person to person as every individual has different job timings, responsibilities, and hence, time available for learning. However, we have provided below the duration of preparation time for AWS Certified Solutions Architect examination.

  • If you have some knowledge about AWS then preparation would take around 80 hours or two months for you.

However, as a means of compensation, AWS allows retaking of the exam at no cost.
