Professional Scrum Product Owner™ (How to become) Certification Process

A step-by-step process to earn a PSPO™ certification

As per Scrum.org, PSPO™ certification does not require mandatory attendance of the official PSPO™ course. Only attending and clearing the PSPO™ certification online assessment is sufficient in order to get this certification. Follow these steps to know how to become a Product Owner.

HOW TO BECOME A PSPO

The following is the step-by-step process to become a Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO™):

  • Enroll for the PSPO course at KnowledgeHut, a Professional Training Network member of Scrum.org.
  • Take the 2-day online PSPO course delivered by Professional Scrum Trainers® (PSTs).
  • On successful completion of the course, Scrum.org will email you the password to take the exam.
  • Take the 1-hour online PSPO exam which comprises of 80 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Answer and True/False.
  • Score a minimum of 85% to pass the PSPO assessment, after completing the course.
  • Get the industry recognized "PSPO I" certification, along with a PSPO I logo.

If an individual doesn’t want to take the course, he/she can directly apply on the Scrum.org website. On registering, you will receive a personal password along with an Assessment key. You can then directly visit the link and take the exam.

Note*: PSPO I must be passed before attempting the PSPO II, which is tougher to crack than the PSPO I.

Chris Conlin is a Product Owner, Product Manager, Scrum Master, Business Analyst, and Agile Coach, I believe in bringing the human focus back to organizations. We all spend a large percentage of our waking hours "doing work", so we would be well-served to make that time as enjoyable and purposeful as we can. All of the classes that I teach are either focused on Product Owners or those leading or working with Product Owners. Product Ownership is the most pivotal and most misunderstood role in organizations, and I want to help set Product Owners up for success.

I am an agile software development trainer, coach, and practitioner, as well as a curriculum developer, application architect, and software craftsman. With over twenty-five years of experience, I work closely with companies worldwide to help them achieve their goals in delivering business value through software.

In 2006, I took my first class on Scrum with Ken Schwaber, the co-creator of the Scrum framework. Since then I have worked to evangelize Scrum and other agile frameworks, deepen my personal knowledge, and continuously improve my ability to help others understand agility. I see agile software development as a natural outgrowth of the lessons learned in the software industry, including lessons I have personally learned.

I am a strong believer in the “see one, do one, teach one” road to craft and mastery, which led me to become a Professional Scrum Trainer for Scrum.org. Over the past nine years I have trained thousands of students on Scrum - coders, testers, UX specialists, BAs, DBAs, PMs, managers, and C-suite executives - using experiential, immersive courses. I have also mentored and trained four other Scrum.org trainers, who went on to teach hundreds of additional students over the past six years.

Good Trainer. We went through various examples and scenarios. Good training material was provided. All these helped pass the assessment. We could have had a little more time in course training.

Very interactive session with facilities to collaborate even during the virtual session. Insightful as it also dealt with what are and aren't the responsibilities of a product owner and promoted PO-like thinking.
