CSPO® CERTIFICATION

Product owner basics

In Agile terms, a Product is something that you build as per your client’s requirements to achieve a certain goal.

The Product Owner is an individual on the Scrum team, who represents the user community or business, and is responsible for working with the user group to find the features that will be included in the product release. They are the leaders, managing the team and guiding the product’s progress toward success. The role of the Product Owner is critical to all types of product development, specifically in the Agile methodology.

The Scrum Product Owner responsibilities list includes the following:

  • Defining the product features
  • Prioritizing the product features
  • Adjusting the features and priority after each sprint as required
  • Rejecting or accepting work results
  • Keeping customers updated about status and getting their feedback

As a Certified Product Owner, you will be given the responsibility of heading an Agile project, liaising with the Scrum Master to achieve objectives and ensuring satisfied customers. The CSPO course will enable you to improve the effectiveness of Scrum artifacts and give you the knowledge necessary to increase the business agility in your organization.

The Product Owner and the Scrum Master are two different roles in the Scrum (Agile) development model. However, both have the same objective of adding value to project management. While the Scrum Master focuses completely on the team and its operations, the Product Owner studies the project from a customer’s perspective. The Product Owners are responsible for managing the product backlog and securing its visibility all the time. On the other hand, the Scrum Master is responsible to motivate the team and help remove any impediments in order to facilitate the timely completion of the project.

Our world is so small but heavily filled with emotions, competitions, games, and politics. I believe in “United we stand, divided we fall” and “It’s easy to pull down but not easy to build up”. So collaboration and knowledge sharing are the key to success and to create an environment where people can have a win-win situation. Collaborative culture should be developed top to bottom in the organizations to enjoy the success and make it long lasting. I always work towards that direction and I also encourage and support the people whom I work the same way.

The core values that I follow in personal and professional life all the time are: Honesty, Transparency, Positive Thinking, Validated Learning, Share and Care, Receptive.

I played various roles in my career that include: Tech Lead, Project Lead, Project Manager, Senior Delivery Manager, Scrum Master, Agile Coach, and Product Manager. I also have a strong technical background that helps me to contribute to the teams in technical guidance and engineering practices coaching

I started my agile journey in 2009 and played product owner, Scrum Master and Developer roles in various projects/products I have worked with. I thoroughly understand the challenges in these roles. I was fortunate to be part of a large-scale agile transformation in a product based organization using LeSS framework. I have gained great experience as an Agile Coach during this transformation. I helped few organizations to transform into Agile.

I am certified in CST, CAL1, CTC, CSPO, CSP-SM, CSP-PO, CSM, PMI-ACP, ITIL v3 and PMP. Training and coaching is my passion and I contribute to the following training programs:

The workshop was really useful. Vijay, the trainer, made it highly productive and entertaining. I initially thought it was going to be more of a powerpoint presentation with an overdose of information. However, the CST ensured to explain the concepts in a more practical way.

Marco presented well-structured sessions with in-depth Scrum knowledge while relating it to real-world circumstances. Scrum was used as a framework for the course. Therefore, a lot of material was covered, all questions of the group were answered, illustrating its effectiveness. The activities in the session highlighted some of the issues encountered with traditional approaches and importantly how they could be avoided with Scrum. I would have no hesitation in recommending Marco’s course.
