PRINCE2® Certification Process

PRINCE2® Certification

PRINCE2 stands for Projects in a Controlled Environment. This is a project management methodology that was created for IT projects. Today, it has found implementation in multiple applications of different fields. It ensures that all the resources and the tasks of the projects are managed properly.

PRINCE2 or Projects IN Controlled Environments is a project management methodology that helps in delivering an effective approach through a step-to-step approach. Through the PRINCE2 certification, you will be able to validate your skills in the PRINCE2 methodology.

PRINCE2® Certification Vs PMP Certification

PMP and PRINCE2 are project management certifications. They work on different frameworks. PMP uses the PMBOK principles and guidelines as operations standards. It involves working and processes techniques that can be used as a guide. PRINCE2 is a complete methodology with processes and templates. It includes step-by-step direction on execution and organization of the project. It can be considered as an operations manual.

PRINCE2 is better in terms of job prospects. It can be used in any organization, industry or project. With the processes and methods of PRINCE2, a professional can expand their area of work. It offers better packages to certified professionals.

It is a methodology with templates and processes.
    Applicable to multiple industries.
Focuses more on the IT industry.
    One level of certification.
Divided into Foundation and Professional. Also, has an Agile certification path.
The Project Manager is responsible for the project’s result.
Project Manager is a middleman between the project and its control board.

    PRINCE2®

The full form of PRINCE2 is Projects in Controlled Environments.

The Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA), UK adopted PROMPT II in 1989 for IT project management as a UK Government standard. It was given the name ‘PRINCE’ that stood for PROMPT II IN the CCTA environment. Then in 1996, PRINCE2 was released as a general project management method. It includes processes and themes that are preferred by project managers and industries over other methodologies.

PRINCE2 helps the managers in carrying out projects in the given budget and time. The given projects and tasks are divided into clear stages and focus is maintained on product delivery instead of mere activities. The main elements of the methodology are 7 themes, 7 principles, 7 processes and adaptation to the project’s environment.

PRINCE2 is a project management methodology that is used for public and private sector projects in different countries. The UK government instituted it as the standard for IT projects.

AXELOS is the governing body of PRINCE2. Created in 2013 in the UK, this accredited training organization conducts training and awards certification exams. There is a logo of AXELOS on the PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate.

Since the number of project managers is on the rise, there is no specific answer to this question. However, there was a statistic showing that there are 450,000 members in PMI and about 650,000 PMP professionals.

PRINCE2 is a project management methodology that is recognized and used in public as well as the private sector in the UK and internationally. The framework stipulates that every project’s beginning, middle, and end should be organized and controlled.

The framework of PRINCE2 has four integrated elements: Themes, Principles, Processes, and Adaptation to the environment of the project that forms the foundation of the framework.

The themes of PRINCE2 can be categorized into 7 cases:

    • Business case
    • Organizations
    • Quality
    • Plans
    • Risk
    • Change
    • Progress

PRINCE2 processes are structured tasks created for achieving specific goals and completing projects successfully. There are 7 processes including:

    1. Starting up a project
    2. Initiating a project
    3. Directing a project
    4. Controlling a Stage
    5. Managing Product Delivery
    6. Managing Stage Boundaries
    7. Closing a project

PRINCE2® (Projects In Controlled Environments) is a project management methodology that divided the project into controllable and manageable parts. Created as a standard for IT projects by the UK government, this has 7 principles, themes, and processes.

The project management issues can be solved by the PRINCE2 methodology by identification of all the risks, threats, and opportunities in the project. It also determines the solutions for the challenges.

The following changes were made in PRINCE2 6th Edition update:

    • More importance to the principles underpinning PRINCE2
    • Focusing on the connection within principles and themes
    • Reconstructing the guidance of themes for assisting certain tailoring models
    • Utilizing the administration and processes rationally through suggestions, examples, and warnings
    • Renewal of certification using My PRINCE2
    • Using reference and approach for covering aspects of project management

The main reason behind the PRINCE2 6th Edition update was the feedback collected from experts over a period of 8 years. AXELOS has revised the PRINCE2 learning so that they can keep up with the technology.

Project managers are going to be in high demand in the coming years. According to PMI, by the year 2027, there will be a need for 87.7 million jobs in the field of project management. It is one of the most in-demand and lucrative career options.

For undertaking self-study, we recommend that you prepare a study time table and stick to it.  If you can study for a certain number of hours per day, you will be able to finish the exam content within a couple of weeks. Before you start preparation, make sure that you have all the required resources. Try practice tests.

PRINCE2 Foundation certification gives you an understanding of the PRINCE2 methodology and system. You will need this certification before you can move on to advanced levels.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner certification is an advanced level qualification for those wanting to implement the PRINCE2 principles to a project.
