When talking about the LeSS framework the first and most important thing to remember is that LeSS is in every way imaginable Scrum itself. It is not a new and improved variant of Scrum, it is not the implementation of Scrum at the frontline in every team with something else running on top and it definitely isn’t any combination of these ideas. LeSS is instead a philosophy that tries to understand and figure out exactly how the principles, ideas, elements and methodology of Scrum can be applied along with all of the elegance it allows in a large-scale or enterprise level context. LeSS, just like Scrum itself, is what is known as a ‘barely sufficient methodology which is due to several high-impact reasons. These concepts form the absolute grassroots framework for any less framework for large scale product development certification as it is very important to start off by understanding the basic spirit behind LeSS and that it isn’t some magical solution to all problems, but in fact a way to find better solutions with great agility, but at a much greater level of scale. This means that this product must be clearly designed, as well as a broad and all-encompassing end-to-end customer centred solution which is of use to real world customers. This means that the product cannot be a component or a analogy but in some sense what real people would use. This would mean that component manufacturers or module developers would actually be a part of a much greater LeSS framework that would encompass several different teams across organizations, and while this makes the design of the framework more complex, it is still possible due to the high level of saleability that LeSS offers. These three fundamental concepts are what characterise the LeSS framework as the most interesting way to scale Scrum to the enterprise level. The ability of LeSS to be scaled comes largely from the fact that it isn’t a one-size-fits all solution but a overarching philosophy that can be adapted for each different use case, and the Scrum Alliance provides a great amount of documentation and certifications for professionals who are looking to work with LeSS.
